CHARLOTTE DAVIS ANIMATION
CHARACTER
DESIGN - ANIMATION
CATKIN - Graduate Film
Character design in Catkin was meant to be more realistic than cartoonish - this meant lifelike proportions and accurate anatomy for both the child and the Bird. A lot of pre-production work was focused on the construction of their bodies to make the complex designs achievable in animation.
Several different versions of the child were created for different shot types, and a lot of attention was put into her clothing to show signs of neglect without being distasteful. The construction of the bird's wings were studied in detail in order to create a design that was lifelike and consistent across different poses.

CAIMAN LIZARD - Tea Packet Illustration
This character was created to be the mascot on packaging for fair trade tea. The design takes influence from geometric illustration, and is based on a sketch research from the Caiman Lizard held in London Zoo.
She's a real diva. She'll pose for you if you stick around long enough!

CINNAMON - The Guinea Pig
Cinnamon is my partner's guinea pig. I decided to bring him to life on screen as a small personal project. Stylistically I wanted to keep him as simple as possible with few intersecting lines. This project has since branched off into something bigger, which will be posted up here soon.

THE MAGPIE - Lip Sync
This character was created with the intention of animating to lip sync. The animation itself was unfortunately lost, however the storyboard can still be seen.

THE BOBCAT - Lip Sync
This character was created with the intention of animating to lip sync. The animation itself was unfortunately lost.
